ANNOUNCEMENTS:
COMING UP—SPECIAL GUESTS: On Sunday, August 30th, our guest preacher for both services and adult forum leader will be Dr. Ellen Davis, of Duke Divinity School. Currently, Dr. Davis is the Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology at Duke Divinity School. An Episcopal layperson, she is the author of twelve books and many short pieces that focus on biblical interpretation, preaching, and use of the Hebrew Scriptures to address public issues, including agriculture and ecological destruction, interfaith work, and how the arts may illumine faith. Her new translation of the Psalter appears in The Chapel Hymnal (MorningStar, 2027); other recent books include Light within Light: Psalms and the Arts of Insight (Baylor University Press, 2027) and Reading Israel’s Scriptures (Oxford University Press, 2019).
On Sunday, September 20th, our guest preacher for both services and adult forum leader will be the Rev. Canon Kathy Walker, Canon Missioner for Black Ministries for the Diocese of North Carolina. More information will follow, but to learn more about Canon Walker, see this page on our diocesan website: https://episdionc.org/our-staff/
St. Stephen’s will once again be participating in the year’s North Carolina Hot Sauce Festival right here in downtown Oxford on Saturday, September 12th. Please come by to view our quilt display in the sanctuary. We will be selling hot dogs, fresh-made ribbon fries and cold drinks, and we will be raffling off a quilt and some other hand-made artisan items–and all but 10% of proceeds go right back into the community via our Outreach ministries. Indoor, air-conditioned seating and bathrooms are available in our Parish Hall. All are welcome! See separate page on this site for information about raffle items.
